EPIZONE aims to intensify cooperation with ZADD
The EPIZONE coordinator, Wim van der Poel, and several key-scientists of EPIZONE attended the ZADD annual meeting, Nashville USA 8-10 Sept 2014. The meeting discussions were very interesting and EPIZONE aims to intensify cooperation with ZADD. More collaborations in research and education on infectious animal diseases defense can be helpful for both EPIZONE and ZADD.
ZADD is comprised of CEEZAD and IIAD
ZADD (the US Center of Excellence for Zoonotic Animal Disease Defense) is comprised of CEEZAD (the Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases), director Dr. Jürgen Richt and IIAD (the Institute for Infectious Animal Diseases) director Dr. Tammy Beckham, formerly FAZD.
IIAD is one of the partners of EPIZONE. The Co-led center ZADD this year held the first joint annual meeting.
IIAD is one of the partners of EPIZONE
During the meeting a number of researchers presented ongoing research projects of IIAD and CEEZAD. IIAD is one of the partners of EPIZONE. Amongst others this included a project on the development of a LAMP assay for rapid detection of Foot and Mouth Disease Virus. This work which was started within EPIZONE several years ago was presented by Veronica Fowler of the Pirbright Institute.More collaborations in research and education
On the first day of the meeting there were also presentation and discussions about capacity building and an impressive port-folio of education and outreach efforts of IIAD and CEEZAD. The second day of the meeting was used for discussions on how to better respond to emerging infectious diseases and on how to develop good training programs to support new technology. For the discussion on emerging infectious diseases response the current outbreak of PEDV in North America was used as an example.
The meeting discussions about the activities of IIAD and CEEZAD were very interesting for our network and EPIZONE aims to intensify cooperation with ZADD. More collaborations in research and education on infectious animal diseases defense can be helpful for both EPIZONE and ZADD and this will be looked into.
